Playing Catch Up

I had a very busy last couple days so today I'm playing catch up with my photos.

My family has this joke about my brother and me where they call us Czecxicans because we're half Mexican and half Czech.  Sometimes I forget about my Czech half because I look so much like my dad and we tend to eat a lot of Mexican food, plus I speak spanish fluently.

But Friday we delved into our Czech heritage! It was a nice change since the only time we ever do that is on Christmas when we eat traditional Czech bread.
Since it's winter and thus very cold, dumplings, sauerkraut, and a pork roast sounded lovely.  We brought my grandma over and together with my mom we made dinner together using my great grandmother's recipe.

Now, I don't mean to toot my own horn but this dinner was one of the greatest things I'd ever helped to make or had ever eaten.  Not too shabby for a first time!  We even wore aprons that were my great grandmother's for fun because my grandma found them buried in her closet.  We had a very good time and it was the perfect last home-cooked meal to have before I leave tomorrow morning for school.

Yesterday we went to the airport to pick up our close family friends.  They go to school with my brother and me, so they came to Tucson so I could drive them up as well.
So all I had time for yesterday was packing.  I hate packing.  Actually, I loathe it.  And it sucks because I always have way more to take back than I brought down originally.  It looked rather like I was moving in again.
Anyway, all I had time to do was relax with some tea while taking a break from all that packing.

I'm feeling ready to be up in Flagstaff again but at the same time I wish I was back home.  It's a combination of not wanting to have to do homework or study and nerves over starting my last semester.  And, call me a baby, but I'm very close with my family, my mom especially. When I go home I'm reminded of those small comforts I always forget when I'm at school.
It's nice to be back in my Flagstaff bedroom where there's space to put my clothes and things instead of living out of my suitcase.

It was a really beautiful drive up with the twins.  The sky was bright blue and the roads clear of all ice and we listened to The Hobbit the whole way which made the drive go by quickly and helped me to focus as well as stay relaxed.  When we got closer to Flagstaff and I could see the San Francisco Peaks I was reminded of the Lonely Mountain and managed to snap a picture.  Snowy and beautiful as always.  If there's one thing I'm excited for it's the Flagstaff winter.

I hope you all stay healthy and joyful.  Wish me luck on my first day back!
